Two types of items are supplieed to the packaging area by the main conveyor traveling at 10 feet/minute. Item 1 is 1 foot lone and item 2 is 1 foot 6 inches long. There is a minimum space of 1 foot between any two successive items. The items are diverted to conveyors A or B by a diverter. The diverter has a two position plunger. When coil 1 is energized, the item is diverted to conveyor A; when coil 2 is energized, the item is diverted to conveyor B.
a. Determine the poitions of electronic eye sensors on the main conveyor that would be used to distinguish the two parts.
b. Write a PLC program that will operate the diverter based on the signals from the sensors.
